But no need to be sad, we made an easy step-by-step instruction on how to create your very own human slinky costume. Check out our DIY guide below!
Table of Contents
Materials Needed
- Flexible vinyl hose (three or more depending on the size of your costume)
- Pop-up hamper
- Spray paints (preferably in rainbow colors)
- Ribbons
- Hot glue gun
- Scissors
- Yellow shirt or any color that will not overwhelm the colors of your slinky
Instructions
Step 1
Start with cutting out the bottom of your pop-up hamper.
Step 2
Extend the flexible vinyl hose as far as possible. Begin hot gluing the hose to the hamper from the top or bottom. To achieve the best results, make a line of hot glue along with the hose and press it against the hamper. Be careful on pressing the hose to the hamper especially if your hamper is made of mesh. Do not use your hands to press the hamper on the backside. It may be easier for you to lay the hamper on top of the hot glue instead.
Step 3
Wrap the hose around the hamper until it is fully covered. Let it dry for 12 to 24 hours. Do not worry if does not look perfect as it will give more realistic vibes.
Step 4
Once the hamper is dry, sit it upright and start painting. Begin by spray painting with one color, work your way up, allowing each color to overlap slightly, and make sure that the colors are evenly distributed throughout the layers of the hose. This is to ensure that you will get the rainbow effect of the slinky and not just stripes of colors. Let the hamper dry completely.
Step 5
To be able to wear the costume, use two ribbons as shoulder straps and hot glue them in place. Let it dry.
Step 6
Wear the costume with a yellow shirt or dress. You can also wear clothes in other colors but make sure that it is not overwhelming so the colors of your slinky will still stand out.
And there you have it! We hope you find this guide helpful to you and you were able to successfully make your own human slinky costume. Time to strut your DIY costume and enjoy the party!
